Thanks Grace (and Laura)
Can you provide a little more information around this campaign and what assets we have available to play with? I'm not entirely clear on what the look 'n feel of the site is.. if there is a campaign specific logo or ID that we can grab for these promos or not (like for Markup we had the orange "x"). If you can share some references with me, that'd be great.
Making this both design and copy bug (cc-ing Matej).
Assigning to Lee to put it on his radar for now.
Thanks!

hi tara,
here is our staging site for inspiration:

Deadline:
Final Design by July 28
Thanks!

Regarding copy:
nice to have by end of week to start localization.
if not, early next week.
Thanks!

Thanks Grace.
re: copy. Matej is actually on PTO this week. So I'm not sure about that deadline, or if there are blurbs of copy we can take inspiration from and work something out on our own. But that's why it's really important to flag these requests as early as possible so that we can be sure we are covered. I know it's not always easy to plan ahead... and this would normally not be a super tight turn around except that with Matej gone... it adds some delay. Do you have some flexibility on this?
re: design. Slater, do you have any thoughts around a graphic "ID" for this campaign? figured I'd ask you since you've been working on this for a while and I'm not really familiar with all the elements. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Here is the copy we were going to use for the snippet: Also in Bug: 670844
Everyone's Web is a bit different...
What does yours look like? Visualize your Internet at Webifyme

Just wanted to note that Webify Me should be split into two words. Earlier in the project it was called Webifyme, but we decided to separate the words.
Summary: [webifyme] Moz.com Promo Design for Webifyme → [webifyme] Moz.com Promo Design for Webify Me

I can probably help with copy if need be, just I agree with Tara's point in comment #6. Let's talk offline about graphic direction...I'm sure we can figure something out.
Duly noted on "Webify Me" (two words)!

John (or Grace) do we have the PSD files or any graphics for this campaign? I think it might be nice to grab a few and create a little collage of sorts int he corner of these promo boxes. Not a full "collage" as the campaign does it... but jsut pick a few of the objects at random and put them next to each other in a nice way.

We have all the graphics for the objects that can appear in the collage. They're in the code base here, but the file names aren't descriptive:
https://github.com/mozilla/webifyme/tree/master/static/objects/large
If you'd like I can also upload them all in a zip file.
Do you need any other graphics besides the collage objects?
Comment 12•14 years ago
|

Hey William, if you can upload as a zip that'd be fantastic.
I'm not really seeing any other visual hooks on the site... i think we'll be good with just those objects. Thanks much!

Here you go. The zip file is too large (19MB) to attach to the bug, but you can grab it here:

Thanks William!
Lee, I'll let you go through the files and pick out what you think works best. I'll send you a snapshot of the ones I liked personally and thought could work well in smaller sizes on these banners. It might be hard to articulate exactly what I'm thinking here... but one possible idea to try is this:
COPY: (will need Slater's help here, but here are some options / different lengths)
* Everyone's Web is a bit different. What does yours look like? Visualize your Internet at Webify Me
* Everyone's Web is different. Visualize yours at Webify Me
* Visualize your Internet at Webify Me
DESIGN:
* Depending on the promo and how much space we actually have. Grab 1-3 of the images and just have them in a corner to echo some of the "things". Maybe they bleed off the edge or something, and we can use 1, or layer a few next to each other to show more of a collage...
Comment 15•14 years ago
|
||
I'll write up some copy later today (or tomorrow)...generally speaking, though, the shorter blurbs are going to be best. The promo slots we're using don't have much room for copy.
Also, I'm not sure if the collage is exactly the right way to go, visually. I like the idea of showing off a little of what people will be getting - that's actually really important, since the cool visual is the reason people will do this in the first place - but once again, the promo slots are pretty small. Most of the ones identified in comment #0 are either all text or a fairly lightweight image.
Lee, what do you think? I also *strongly* recommend playing around with Webify Me (https://webifyme-dev.allizom.org/en-US/) before you get going.

Tara cracked the whip on me, so here's the copy earlier than noted in comment #15. This is a first pass, so I'm happy to edit further as needed once Lee flows it into the design.
What's New:
Visualize Your Web
See your Internet as a custom collage.
button: Webify Me!
First Run:
button: Visualize your Web
Download.html:
Visualize
YOUR WEB
See your Internet as a custom collage.
link: Webify Me!>>
Firefox user homepage:

Thanks Tara, for cracking the whip. Thanks John, for the quick copy.
Grace and/or William, I was wondering if you can send me a PSD of the Webify me site. I'm looking for working layers and the specific fonts used on the site. I think this will help me keep the promos consistent in look and feel.

Hi all, Sorry if I got ahead of myself in my last comment, but I have a question!
- Do we have a snippet graphic for Webify Me yet? I just looked at the list of promo slots we want to populate:
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1Lp0ltLCBmborp15J87M6SO1q9rLnF3YNB3a0WCNcDFs/edit?hl=en_US
With the Markup campaign, we kept those promotional slots clean (creating a new visual style vs keeping to our standard UI) by using the orange "X". With Mobile, we use the small cellphone icon.
I'm just wondering if it's been discussed whether to open up these promo slots to be styled with specific campaign themes. I understand that we're trying to 'promote' them, and the more visual impact, the better - but wanted to make sure we're not heading towards the "Eat at Joe's" marketing approach, where every available spot is competing for your attention.

Lee - great question. I don't know if we do or not...LoFo, can you comment?
Certainly if we do that would go a long way toward nailing down the design element.

hi lee and slater,
we've talked to laura forrest regarding the promoting webifyme in moz.com.
Shes shared this doc with us: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1Lp0ltLCBmborp15J87M6SO1q9rLnF3YNB3a0WCNcDFs/edit?hl=en_US
and also advised us to start the copy and design process.
thanks!

Lee's question was about snippets though. Do we have a snippet icon already created for this, or does he need to make one? If we already have one, then we might be able to repurpose it for the other promos (for consistency and cleanliness).

We don't have a graphic for the snippet yet. Let's create one here, too, then use that within the promos re-sized to fit as needed.

Can we try a dynamic snippet where... it transitions through a few of the objects? just a thought...

Comment 27•14 years ago

That would be cool if we can do a rotating image, which might help showing a variety of the objects user will see in Webify Me. (I will voice concern that it may seem too 'blinky' on some of these pages, however. Maybe an animation would work best as a snippet on the start page)
I pulled my three faves here:

The animation suggestion I mentioned was for the Snippet :) def. not the other promos.
Comment 29•14 years ago
|
||
This is a deceptively tricky one. The ideas in comment #27 are nice looking, but I'm not sure that any of them really sell the concept all that much. For example, a sock monkey seems pretty random if you don't know what you're clicking on.
Grace, what do you think?

I'd like to avoid animations where possible in order to yeah, not appear too blinky.
Out of these I really like the fortune cookie icon since it represents the unfolding surprises which really resonates and matches the overall spirit of this campaign.

I agree that the fortune cookie icon works with the theme of surprise - I also thought the Lego pieces might work bc it might suggest building, or creating something, but maybe it's more related to construction vs. a quiz > results.

hi lee this looks great! i like the paper fortune.
my only concern is that maybe the color of the image looks very much like the background of the page that it doesn't stand out? can we do like a yellow paper maybe?
Comment 44•14 years ago
|
||
Hey Grace. Agree that it's not the most visually Loud promo ever. But I think it looks fine as it is, and it's not so easy to just change the color of the paper. So, i vote to keep this.
Comment 45•14 years ago
|
||
Hey Grace, are you okay with that? Sorry, but we had shared that comp earlier and no one said anything. It's hard finding the perfect graphic for this promo and I think Lee did a great job here with what we had. Lee, if you can post the final files, I suggest we close.
Thanks all.

I posted final docs in comment 41.
Since all of these promo spots consist of that one image, and CSS/copy - I colorized the one image, yellow. That way it will work for all promo spots.
Consider this your Get Outta Jail card, Grace ;)
